In this workshop Jorge Aguilar will discuss how Equity and Access work is interfacing with higher education admissions-related matters. This is mostly related to increasing chances for students to make a seamless transition to higher education, but not about assessments once students are enrolled in higher education.

This workshop is available to schools who will be working with the student portfolio software called Career Cruising. Both beginning and advanced levels will be covered. State Center Consortium recommends that all SCC-sponsored career cruising sites send a representative for training for the school year 2011-2012.

School Districts are required by Education Code Section 51934 to provide “HIV/AIDS prevention education from instructors trained in the appropriate courses” for “all pupils in grades 7 to 12”. Training for Architectural Teachers

State Center Consortium will be sponsoring an instructor from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to conduct this day long training.

Teachers will design a "Dream Space". Using an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to architecture, teachers develop a design for a personal living space. An architecturally detailed floor plan is drawn to scale. Models are constructed using a variety of mostly recycled materials.

The purpose of this job fair is to create opportunities for youth ages 16-24 to network with local employers as they search for employment. The goal is to keep youth engaged and actively participating in their community to help make Fresno a stronger, safer community.

Events include Fleeing Felon DASH, Crime Scene Investigation, Police Obstacle Course, Shooting/Combat Course, and Interviews.

Career Booths include Kerman Police, Fresno Sheriff, California Highway Patrol, Military booths, and California Department of Corrections.

9 businesses will be hosting over 200 students from Central, Clovis, and Fresno Unified School Districts for the Job Shadowing event. The goal is for the students to be exposed to as many types of employment opportunities in a particular industry as possible. Many high school students have a very narrow view of the employment options available to them. We want to broaden their view.

The FCC Theatre Arts High School Drama Festival is in its 30th year. The festival was designed to introduce High Schools and students to higher education opportunities and to promote the programs at FCC. Recently, we have close to 12 schools in attendance with 100-150 students competing in the festival and taking workshops offered that day by FCC staff and students. We also work together with close to 35 volunteers, students and community members, who create a day that the high schools appreciate and plan for each year.

The Career Skills Challenge is an action-oriented event open to all students who attend a high school within the three counties. The purpose of the Challenge is to provide recognition and encouragement to high school students for their accomplishments in career skills, improve participation in educational programs, and encourage public support of career technical education.

 This is an all day workshop for high school students (Jr & Sen.) each school can bring 10 students. There will be hands on demonstrations so students need to dress to work. Lunch will be served and 16 of the Fresno County local apprentice programs will be represented.

IMPORTANT WORKSHOP FOR COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS INTERESTED IN STARTING PROGRAMS IN PHOTOVOLTAICS (SOLAR ELECTRICITY)

Fresno City College, ATTEi and State Center Consortium in collaboration with Hands On Solar, Inc. and The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), is offering a half day workshop on December 12, 2008 for schools in the Central San Joaquin Valley that are interested in starting programs in solar electricity (photovoltaics).

State Center Consortium (SCC) will be sponsoring trainings on the software program, Career Cruising, for middle schools in Fresno, Madera, and Mariposa Counties.

SCC will be paying each participating school's site license fees and will be offering trainings for any counselors and/or teachers utilizing the program.

Since 1989 Dave Hobbs has been a hotline advisor, field engineer, and technical trainer for Delphi Corp (Delco Electronics) in Kokomo Indiana where he has assisted thousands of dealer and independent techs with diagnostics problems.Two decades of training engineers and service techs around the world has given Dave the unique ability to bridge the theoretical with the practical.
