The state of California has identified 15 Industry Sectors. Each sector contains multiple career pathways in which to develop Programs of Study. It is up to individual school districts and the region’s corresponding colleges
The Programs of Study are designed to engage all members of the community in the educational process including; business and industry, counselors, principals, parents and students. This is necessary to properly prepare students for high-skill, high-wage and high-demand occupations. For many students, this is the most effective and efficient strategy for obtaining their chosen career.
This guide provides an introduction to developing Programs of Study in California. A Program of Study is a multi-year sequence of academic and technical coursed that provide student with a structured progression of secondary and post-secondary instruction toward a specified career area.
